Alapuzha Backwaters

The Country's sole Tiger reserve, Thekkady, with its bountiful treasures of tropical flora and fauna is the ultimate reservoir of many an endangered species and a rich tribal culture. It is India’s largest wildlife sanctuary. This sanctuary is spread over an area of 777 Sq.Kms, surrounded by an artificial lake over an area of 25 Sq.Kms. Thekkady is a pleasant heaven on earth for those who love nature in its wild manifestations. . The 120 years old 'Surki' dam built across Peryiar, is a major tourist attraction.

Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary is a noted bird sanctuary where many species of migratory birds visit. The bird sanctuary extends over 14 acres (57,000 m²). If you are lucky you will chance upon a Siberian Crane, a special visitor during the migratory season. The nearby Vembanad Lake, the largest backwater in Kerala, is habitat for many marine and freshwater fish species and it teems with Pearlspot (Karimeen), shrimp (chemmeen) and prawns.

Kovalam is an internationally renowned beach with three adjacent crescent beaches:Lighthouse Beach, Hawah Beach and Samudra Beach. These beaches are separated by rocky outcroppings in the coastline. The leisure options at this beach are plenty and diverse. Sunbathing, swimming, herbal body toning massages, special cultural programmes and catamaran cruising are some of them. The tropical sun acts so fast that one can see the faint blush of coppery tan on the skin in a matter of minutes.


Wayanad is a bio-diverse region spread across 2,132 square kilometers on the lofty Western Ghats. Strikingly scenic, it is known for its sub-tropical savannahs, picturesque hill stations, sprawling spice plantations, luxuriant forests and rich cultural traditions. Hidden away in the hills of this land are some of the oldest tribes, as yet untouched by civilization. The very first prehistoric engravings in Kerala discovered in the foothills of Edakkal and around Ambukuthimala.
